LOCATION

Cawsand is only 10 miles away from Plymouth and is easily accessible whether travelling in a car or by foot.  To reach Cawsand, you will probably have to cross the River Tamar - by bridge or one of the 3 ferries.  Crossing from the river to the other is a wonderful way to mark the start of your holiday.

Directions by car:

From Exeter take the A38 across the Tamar Bridge, then turn left at  the Trerulefoot roundabout onto the A374, turn right onto the B3247 signposted Millbrook and stay on this road through Millbrook, then up a hill and turn right into Cawsand at the top.

Instead of using the Tamar Bridge, there is the Torpoint Car Ferry service from Plymouth to Torpoint - a family favourite that gives you a chance to stretch your legs and enjoy the views of the Devonport Dockyard and the Tamar.  Follow directions off the A38 to Plymouth centre via the A374, following directions to the A374 (or the Continental Ferry if none are shown). From Torpoint continue on the A374, turn left at Antony up the hill through the village, turn left on to the B3247 at the T junction and and stay on this road through Millbrook, then up a hill and turn right into Cawsand at the top.

Directions by rail:
The nearest railway station is Plymouth.  Trains run every hour from London plus there is a good service from Manchester and Birmingham.  See www.nationalrail.co.uk for details.  There is a direct bus from Plymouth Station to Cawsand which takes just over an hour, see the timetable at www.plymouthbus.co.uk (select the day and direction of travel)

From Easter to the end of September, the Cawsand Ferry runs from the Barbican in Plymouth straight onto Cawsand Beach, only a 2 minute walk from the cottage.  To pick up the ferry either walk or catch a taxi (10 mins) to the historic Mayflower Steps.

Alternatively, a well practised route  is to take a 10 minute taxi ride to Admirals Hard in Plymouth to pick up the pretty Cremyll Ferry across the Tamar (10 minutes) and then from Cremyll another taxi (5 minutes) or bus (25 minutes) to Cawsand.
